OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

*squeals and jumps around like an idiot*

The thing about Oofuri is that it managed to a lot of things right that Tenipuri didn't. Oh sure, Tenipuri was...gay. But Oofuri is ghey, even when it piles on the straight. But the best part is that the girls in Oofuri are lovable, every last one of 'em. They aren't useless tools that stand around as part of the scenery. Every single girl has a role to play, whether it's mediation between bickering couples batteries, or coaching discipline into a mish-mashed team.

Take the recent chapter, for example. If this were Tenipuri, poor Shinooka would be getting the brunt of fandom hate. (And if it were Tenipuri, the hate would be extremely well justified.) But instead, to my joy, fandom embraces the girl and her poor doomed crush on Abe. Because Shinooka is awesomely mature and realizes that the last thing Nishura needs at the moment is dealing with romance on top of their recent failure. So she keeps her feelings to herself and tries so, so very hard to make the battery work. Not that Abe is appreciative or anything. In fact, he does act rather assholish, in an understandably obtuse way, because he's Abe.

But what I'm trying to get at is Oofuri did the story right and there's no hate for the characters because all of them are lovable, even in the heartbreaking moments. I'm not rooting for Shinooka/Abe because Shinooka deserves so, so much better. *hugs the poor girl*
