[public post] No, no nononono

As a circadian nerd, I get super twitchy whenever I see people giving misinformation on circadian rhythms.

Thing the first: Professional insomniacs do not exist, because one one fucking pays you to be an insomniac. You're just an insomniac, it's bad enough. Or, if you want to explain just how bad your insomnia is, you can call yourself a chronic insomniac.

Thing the second: Saying that a flash of bright light will throw off your circadian rhythms is not correct. A flash of light in the blue spectrum will affect your circadian rhythm, because that is the light the SCN (otherwise known as your master clock) is sensitive to. So if you have a nice red filter over a screen? Your SCN is going to think it's still dark despite the light being on.

Thing the third: Insomnia is a serious problem and should be treated ASAP. If not, it could cause dementia and other unpleasant things. So lying still at night and trying to sleep is not going to cure the problem; it'll only exacerbate things. Get help already!
